As one of the worlds acclaimed Professional Kiteboarders, Damien has a unique and exhilarating style when taking the waves off coasts around the world and capturing those experiences with a GoPro camera. As we continue with our current video, Damien Leroy sets the stage and shares the passion and concept behind it. This is what he shares with us.
“I have always wanted to capture the feeling of foiling and share it with the world. Hydrofoiling has been around for quite sometime as Lard Hamilton and Dave Kalama had really put it on the map back in the day in Hawaii on massive swells in Hawaii. Every year I do a clinic in the Cayman Islands and thought it would be a perfect location to capture the crystal clear water and pristine conditions for kitesurfing. The Sweet Spot Caymans is on the east end and had the perfect location for it all to go down. I was lucky enough to have Melissa Gil pro rider and a waters sports ambassador on hand to share the experience. She had just learned how to foil a week before so everything was new to her. You got to see the concentration and grace as she starts to find the perfect balance of foiling. “It truly feels like you are flying.” There is no noise and it is absolutely one of the most peaceful things. I have been doing it for over 3 years now and the evolution has really kicked and everyone wants to do it. Not to mention they are now the fastest racing vessel in kitesurfing as well as sailboats thanks to the Americas cup.
